Pros Prep for Season Start

Bo Favre and Mark Robinson make height reduction modification to their casting platform.

Professional anglers like Bo Favre and Mark Robinson make last minute modifications to their casting platform before Friday’s launch at the Elite Redfish Series Team Tour Stop #1 to fall within new guidelines for equipment instituted at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

As the Bassmaster Redfish Cup Championship showed us and millions of viewers last November in Port Aransas Texas the competition is more exciting to watch and obviously more fair when all competitors fish from the same or similar type rigs.

In Golf, Nascar, Baseball and all other competitive sports equipment regulation is essential to creating a safe, fair and level playing field for all competitors as equally as possible. For more than 20 years in BASS professionals can not have a boat, regardless of the size or reason with more than a 250 HP engine.

Professional baseball players must use wood bats. Professional golfers are only allowed a maximum of 14 clubs in their bag? Why? “If everybody has the right to buy and use as many clubs as they want then what’s the harm” because it’s all about all competitors using similar equipment so that no one brand or type gives one or a group of competitors an advantage over another.

Event 1 takes place this season at the #icebreakerinvitational presented by Louisiana Northshore and will mark the first event since rules and procedures were put in place in an attempt to level the playing field, create the best competitions we can and return to what just a few short years ago was tournaments with the focus on fishing techniques more so than specialized rigs and equipment that became a decisive advantage for some.

It’s always good when one of the team members owns a fabrication shop and can make quick work of a 8″ reduction to the casting platform to ensure it’s 5′ high or less.
