Day 3 was miserable weather wise but tremendous for one Elite Redfish Series pro. Mr. Josh Gregory notched his first win ever on the Elite Redfish Tournament Series at the Atlas All Star Border Wars Open taking place in Port Arthur Texas. Check back for more on this great win soon…

As Day 2 kicked off the skies looked like they would IMG_4171open up and be a torrential downpour most of the day. However, it was the high winds and more muddy water the anglers had to battle on day 2 of the Border Wars Power Pole Open Qualifier in Port Arthur Texas.

As the day progressed and more anglers sent in their on the water updates it was obvious, while conditions may have been deteriorating the fish were actually in a better mood to bite.

At the conclusion of day 2’s weigh in the top 10 would move on to fish on day 3 and their chance to continue on to the most lucrative tournament payback in the history of professional redfishing at the first ever Atlas All Star Tour Stop May 10-11-12.

After the fish were weighed and the weights tallied it was Josh Gregory standing a top of the field of pros. Josh’s 2 day total of 34.90 pounds was good enough for the top spot by nearly 2.5 pounds.

Second place went to Frogg Toggs pro Paul Dufrene with 32.41 pounds while Jeremy Reeves weighed in 30.29 pounds to round out the anglers totaling 30 pounds or better after 2 days of fishing.

The top 10 would continue with Chance Angel and his 27.45 pounds in 4th, Dwayne Eschete although finishing in 5th was forced to withdraw after suffering equipment failure and not being able to secure a boat for day 3.

This moved Freddy Frederick all the way back up to 5th on his 1 day total of 22.28 pounds. What a story this is turning out to be for one Mr. Freddy Frederick.

30124019_1984655711605101_8046351062728179712_oIt was an emotional day on stage as Freddy had his father in the audience and showed exactly what pros are made of when discussing mistakes, mishaps and family.

Will this story have a truly amazing ending? One will have to wait another 18 or so hours to find out. 6th place is Michael Fesco, 7th is Steve “pookie” Smith, 8th is Nicky Savoie, 9th place with his broken wrist and all is Alan Thompson and Mr. Daryl Weaver moves up into the top 10 for the first time on the Elite Redfish Series.

Day 3 promises to be a great finish to this awesome event and the professional drive through weigh in will take place at 3:15 PM tomorrow at the Carl Parker Center in downtown Port Arthur. Day 1 anglers battled high winds, high water and a low amounts of bites. The fish were tight lipped but a few anglers managed to coax a few Texas sized redfish to the boat. Leading the field is Yamaha Pro, Dwayne Eschete with 17.29 pounds.

2nd place is Josh Gregory with 15.88, Louisiana pro, Paul Dufrene in 3rd with 15.03, local Jeremy Reeves in 4th with 14.23 and Jimmy Lloyd rounding out the top 5 with just 2 fish for 10.70.

Talk about a tough day, this area is famous for giant redfish but the high water conditions and high freshwater infusion has really played havoc on the angler’s fish and patterns.

Regrettably, today the tour had to zero out 1 angler’s weight, and did not weigh another angler’s fish after he inquired stage side about waters he had been on.

Local pro, Freddy Frederick and Michael Fesco both stepped up and made us aware voluntarily that they found themselves navigating through “out of bounds” water that they thought was in bounds.

The honesty and integrity these 2 displayed is awesome and we are proud that they neither competitor tried to hide their accidental infraction. That is Elite and honorable stuff!

Day 2 awaits these anglers in the morning when once again they will launch and continue the battle for 5 qualifying spots in the first All Star Tour Stop of 2018.
