Watch Saturday’s  Live Weigh In  –  See on the Fishing Wire

Team Camacho-Villarreal Take Top Spot

The South Padre Showdown was by all accounts a big success.

Success comes in many forms and is subjective but for us we tend to measure by the amount of smiles and pats on the back being passed around during and after the weigh in, this event had both and in fabulous numbers. The team of Felipe Camacho and Randy Villarreal took home the top spot and $5,000.00 overcoming a dead fish penalty of .50 pounds by landing the heaviest 2 fish limit 14.99 and enough to still cover the top spot on the podium after the penalty which resulted in an official weight of 14.49 pounds.

Felipe and Randy also landed the Brecknell Big Red of the event with a beautiful 7.46 pounder for an additional $3,000.00. An $8,000.00 total take plus 2 beautiful trophies and oversized commemorative checks to top out their day and all for just a $300.00 entry and for opting in to the optional $200.00 Brecknell Big Red side pot. Brecknell, the official scales of the Elite Redfish Series can be counted for reliable and accurate weights on the water and is the choice of Elite pros everywhere.

Second place and $1,750.00 went to Team Hammerhead Services, Poco Cedillo and Chris Castro weighing in a 2 fish live limit of 13.40 pounds with 2 beautiful south Texas redfish. Third went to Tony Dugue and James Garner bringing 12.99 pounds to the scale for Fishstix Rods catching a cool $1,000.00 for team Fishstix.

The top 5 finished out with team JRZ Lures Aaron Gonzales and Tyler Juarez taking home $600.00 for their 12.99 two fish limit for 4th place finish while the 5th and final spot went to team Spooled Life, Ram Garcia and Fil Spencer catching the final pay spot for $350.00 for their 12.21 pounds.

What a great weekend to be in South Padre Island, the weather was great, the food fabulous and the kayak pro teams amazing! Thank you to everyone who came out to compete, watch, support or cheer for their favorite team(s) and we look forward to doing it all again bigger and better in 2023.
