Congratulations to Mamba Boats pro, Travis Land on a successful return to the frogg toggs Elite Solo Tour. Winning the 2 day qualifier to get to Championship Saturday and then concluding a great week of fishing by taking the win on Championship Saturday is a great accomplishment.

Travis netted the $10,000.00 check, very valuable 100 Angler of the Year Points and the title of Elite Fishing Series Champion at the 2023 #MadisGrasCup event presented by Visit Jefferson Parish.

Elite Solo Tour events are made up of 2 tournaments in 1. A 2 day qualifier followed by a 1 day championship. After 2 days of qualifying rounds the field for Championship Saturday is made up of anglers weighing in the 5 heaviest limits of live redfish over the qualifier’s 2 days. The angler’s weights are zero’d, all 5 start with 0.00 pounds for Saturday’s exciting 1 day shootout for cash, the coveted custom Solo Tour trophies and prestige accompanying a win without team mates or draw partners.

“It’s all on you, success or struggle there’s no one to share the blame or the glory and I like that.” ~Travis Land

Making it through the qualifying rounds and joining Land for Championship Saturday was Orange, TX. pro Jeremy Reeves, Conroe, TX pro Jay Andrew, Brewton, AL pro Barnie White and Winnie, TX pro Tony Viator. If this event was a battle of the states Texas would take the title with 4 of the final 5 for Championship Saturday hailing from the lone star state.

At the end of a long and wet full day of fishing the pros loaded up their rigs and joined the police escort to the festival grounds. Following the weighing of their catch the pros hit the stage just after the timeless band, The Eagles and just before Rick Springfield. What a great opportunity to share a moment with the huge crowd that braved the elements to see their favorite bands, enjoy the food, parades and all that takes place till way after dark on the final day of Family Gras, just a stone’s throw from New Orleans.

Jeremy Reeves chased Travis Land the entire event but in the end fell just 2.51 pounds short of the title of Elite Fishing Champion but still took home a solid $6,000.00 and 99 valuable Angler of the Year points for his second place finish. Barnie White landed in 3rd and pocketed $4,000.00 and 98 A.O.Y. points while Tony Viator netted $2,000.00 for 4th and 97 A.O.Y. points. Taking home the final paycheck for Saturday, in 5th place Jay Andrew took home $1,000.00 and 96 A.O.Y. points.

Closing out a big payday Championship Saturday, Baytown Texas pro, Gary Moreno took home a whopping $7,500.00 check in the Brecknell Big Red bounty fish a giant 10.89 redfish that brought out the oohs and aahs from the crowd.  What a great event! Up next is the Slidell Shootout.
