ANGLER OF THE YEAR POINTS RACE AFTER 4 HERE

After inclement weather forced day 1’s cancellation this event would come down to a 1 day shootout where the Final Four after a single round would move on to fish Championship Saturday.

Mamba Boats pro Travis Land brought in 3 fish for 17.32 on Friday to qualify in 3rd place heading into Championship Saturday. It wasn’t what I wanted but I’ll take it, the marsh out there is totally different than it was this time last week, Travis told the good sized crowd that had gathered for Friday’s weigh in. Once again Travis figured it out, saving his best for last, bringing in 21.66 on Championship Saturday for the win while reclaiming his top spot in the season long Yamaha Chase for the Championship prestigious angler of the year race.

Travis took home a check for $10,000.00, the tournament champion trophy and 113 valuable AOY points.

Finishing off the week in 2nd place, Redfish Lodge of Louisiana pro Michael Frenette weighed in 19.03 pounds for another solid finish looking to make the Yamaha Redfish Cup Championship. It’s a goal of mine for sure and fishing smart gives me the best chance of making it.

Jeco’s Marine pro Mark Robinson led the final four after Friday’s qualifying round with 3 fish that averaged over 8 pounds each for a total of 24.51 pounds. However, as great as that weight was it would mean nothing on Saturday as the weighs zero for the field on he final day.

On championship Saturday Mark only mustered up 17.11 pounds to finish in 3rd place for the tournament.

4th place was secured by Max Martin winner of tour stop #2 earlier in the season at the Lafitte Louisiana Championship. Max slid back to just 9.65 pounds on Championship Saturday in ever changing conditions on the water and in the marsh in and around the Louisiana Northshore.

After a very tough week weatherwise allowing for very limited practice and forcing cancellation of day 1 the pros of the frogg toggs Elite Solo Tour weighed in 45 fish for a total weight of 224.08 pounds. Angler after angler took time to thank Visit the Northshore for hosting the event and even in tough conditions that left many scratching their heads on what, where and when to do their fishing had nothing but praise for the community’s hospitality, welcoming vibe and in many’s opinions, one of the most beautiful weigh in locations of the season, speaking of Heritage Park, Slidell where the pros trailered their rigs to each day for the live weigh ins.

We’d like to echo the pro’s sentiments and add a special thank you to Restaurant Cote’ for again hosting the tour and its pros for a great captain’s meeting on Wednesday afternoon and Camelia City Pizza for doing the same for the Elite Kayak Tour competitors on Friday afternoon. All in all this event turned out to be a great time on the Louisiana Northshore with the city leaders like Mayor Greg Cromer, community representatives like Tanya Leader, Alex Carollo and Kevin Walcott as well as affiliate event partners the Louisiana CCA and their representative, Penny.

A very very special thank you and shout out to our amazing lady photographer, Dawn Land, thank you DL you are the best at capturing all of the best moments of each tour stop. Finally, thank you to our lodging partner and official hotel for this event, the Sleep Inn Slidell. The rooms were perfect, the nights quiet and every need of the tour, its staff and camera crew met and exceeded.

It ended up being a tremendous weekend with all pulling in the same direction to showcase this great community in person and on the Discovery Network when the #SlidellShootout episode airs multiple times in Q4 of 2024 and Q1 of 2025.
